News, data & analysis for the people who run UK membership organisations

Resources

Curated, annotated, and deliberately short. Everything here earns its place; cutting is the curating.

Benchmarking your association

  • MemberWise Digital Excellence Report — the UK sector benchmark, now in its 10th edition (~480 respondents). Start here for how your digital and AI maturity compares with peers. For membership and digital leads.
  • ASAE State of Associations (2026) — the first edition of ASAE's flagship survey; the AI-adoption and financial-health figures every board deck now quotes. US-weighted, still essential.
  • ASI Membership Performance Benchmark Report — 11 editions of retention, renewal and engagement numbers from iMIS-using organisations. The longest-running dataset of its kind.

Getting started with AI — and governing it

  • Sidecar's AI Learning Hub and Ascend — the broadest AI education programme built specifically for association staff; the third edition of Ascend is the sensible on-ramp for non-technical teams.
  • The AgentZ white papers — two papers from iFINITY, the London AiSP behind AgentZ: an executive case for giving AI "a safe way to act" and a technical companion on the safe action layer. The Governed–Verifiable–Recoverable framing is the clearest test we've seen for judging any agentic tool, whatever your platform. For CEOs and IT leads respectively.
  • Bursting Silver's AI governance guides — practical governance writing from the Canadian iMIS consultancy; pairs well with the above as a second, independent voice on the same problems.

Choosing and running an AMS

  • Our AMS market briefing — the buyer-side map of the market, updated quarterly. Read before any procurement conversation.
  • Best AMS for UK professional bodies — our ranked seven, scored on the published rubric, with the case against each.
  • How AgentZ works — the clearest public walkthrough of agentic AI operating a real AMS (iMIS): worth reading even if you run another platform, because this architecture — approval gates, permission inheritance, readback — is where the whole category is heading.
  • developer.imis.com — ASI's public API documentation; the reference for anyone scoping iMIS integration work.

Communities and events

  • MemberWise — ~8,000 UK membership professionals; free to join for practitioners, and the Recognised Supplier list is a useful first procurement filter.
  • MembershipWorld — Gordon Glenister's global community; the AI special-interest group is active and refreshingly non-vendor-led.
  • Emergence 2026 (Arlington VA, 2–5 Nov) — ASI's iNNOVATIONS and the iUG annual conference merged into one flagship event; the year's main gathering for the iMIS ecosystem.

What we left out, and why

Generic CRM and marketing-automation reading lists (not sector-specific enough to earn a slot), vendor webinar libraries (briefings in disguise), and LinkedIn thought-leadership roundups (life is short). If something above stops earning its place, it goes — this page is curated, not accumulated.
